Crabby Pants

I am normally a glass overflowing kinda gal. Ever the optimist, I tend to see the best in people and situations. I’ve been told I’m annoyingly so.

But every once in a while, I wake up wearing my Crabby Pants.

It’s a surprise to me, too.

But then I still have to get kids out the door, set a good example, coach ladies, and be a kind human.

Not easy to do when those Crabby Pants are riding up. When our youngest was little he thought I was talking about actual pants. It was adorable, you’ll just have to take my word for it.

I meet Jesus for coffee each morning. But on those Crabby Pants mornings, he’s like, Girl, change your pants!

The way we have worked it out for me to do that over the years is for me to start listing off my blessings. There is something about gratitude that changes things.

Maybe you’re still broke. Or sick. Or your relationship and fridge is still on the fritz. But when you start looking for things to be grateful for, they start appearing.

Your circumstances may not have changed, but your heart will. Your relationship might not be fixed but your attitude is.

Our brains are wired to look for what we tell them to. It’s like when we decide to buy a new car and we settle on a make and model, and all the sudden, that’s all we see.

The same thing happens with negativity or blessings. When we look at the world through the lens of negativity, everything is dark and dreary. All we see are mistakes, frustrations, pain.

But when we look through the lens of gratitude, we become a magnet for blessings.

So the next time you wake up with your Crabby Pants on, might I suggest you start looking for blessings.

And maybe some Jammie Pants, too.

Love,

Meredith
